Let`s Talk about Art Now! Which Young Greek Women Visual Artists of Today We Shall Be (Most Possibly) Be Talking about Tomorrow?

To the above question of Gynaika magazine the following reply: Syrago Tsiara (Director of the Centre of Contemporary Art of the State Museum of Contemporary Art), Dafni Vitali (Curator of the National Museum of Contemporary Art), Katerina Zacharopoulou (visual artist, producer and hostess of the tv show "The Age of Images"), Ileana Tounta (gallery owner) and Elizabeth Plessa (art historian).

Varvara Liakounakou (35 years old): The drawings and oil paintings by Varvara Liakounakou depict the human figure, schematized and abstract, so much so that it often appears blurry and indistinct. The artist is interested in the psychological content, the human pain and the marks of time and life on the figure. Her work bears the elements of art brut and sways between abstraction and representation. Among the impressive elements are the use of oil paint in such a manner that it brings to mind the transparency of watercolor. The struggle with the materials and materiality is ongoing. A large part of her paintings is based on drawings-doodles. These drawings usually tend towards abstraction and constitute a visual diary. Centered on the human beings and human existence, Liakounakou's work possesses internal power and sentimental tension.
